Sioux City Iowa native John Beardsley (1934- 1986) lived and worked in New York and Washington DC in the 1950s and 1960s along side friends Willem DeKooning and Marisol. He later moved to Florida where he opened is own studio and gallery mentoring many young artists. His work is included in many private collections and a number of museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art in NY, the Oxford University Library Gallery in London, and the Stadelijk Museum in Amsterdam. This compelling work has a rich, visceral quality and a dynamic composition. Beardsley was quoted as saying "My art derives from a need to relate and express a spiritual power working in my life".
