The Sofa Compact designed by Charles and Ray Eames developed from the built-in sofa they created for their groundbreaking steel home. It features a steel frame which is supported by demountable chrome legs and folds down for economical shipping. It is also relatively shallow in depth, which allows it to fit in modest spaces and along with the folding feature earned it the nickname "compact sofa". Despite its modest footprint, the high back and lumbar support makes it a very comfortable seat.
This early vintage sofa came from the estate of important Chicago interior architect Paul Campagna. Originally upholstered in black naugahyde, it has been restored in a nicely textured gray fabric.
