This is a terrific example of the rare and important ESU (Eames Storage Unit) designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. Utilizing industrial materials such as plywood, angle iron and masonite, the Eameses created a simple, elegant stoarge solution that embraced the modernist ethos of honesty in construction. It is a second generation unit from 1952 which has the redesigned legs that alleviate the persistant issue with bent legs that plagued the first generation ESU. It is entirely original and has a patina which speaks to decades of use.
