Charles and Ray Eames created this design at the behest of their personal friend and Herman Miller textile desiger Alexander Girard for the La Fonda Del Sol restaurant he was creating in the Time-Life Building in New York. They use the same materials and technology of their iconic fiberglass chairs they first designed in the late 40s, but have a lower back and a unique aluminum pedestal base design. Further highlighting the Eames- Girard connection, these three examples are upholstered in Alexander Girard hopsack fabric in an orange and gold colorway.
