An important design by Denmark's Hans Wegner, the halyard chair does not employ any wood that the cabinetmaker trained designer is known for. Rather, it uses steel for the chair frame and flag halyard for the supporting seat and back. The polished steel is softened with a leather headrest and a long-haired Icelandic sheepskin. Conceived by Wegner after a day spent at the beach where he experimented with the most comfortable seating angles in the sand, he was so pleased with the result that Wegner used a halyard chair in his own home.
Made in Denmark by PP Mobler, this example dates from the late 90s and is in good original condition with minor signs of age and use, most notably, some fading to the headrest.
