This bench by Finn Juhl was created to serve double duty. It is a long, elegant coffee table, and with the addition of a seat cushion, a comfortable bench. Designed in 1951 for Baker furniture, it predates the more widely seen bench Juhl designed for Bovirke with metal legs. A substantial piece, it has strengtheners that run both the length and width, tapered leg stretchers and a sculpted lip on the edges of the top which serve to hold a cushion in place when in use. One of these benches can be seen in Finn Juhl’s home in Ordrup outside Copenhagen.
