We love folk art and particularly tramp art. Made mostly by anonymous artists and craftsmen from discarded materials, the joy and creativity they convey in a functional object has a delightful character, and the elaborate, decorative surfaces and patterns are the perfect counterpoint to the clean-lined modern design we appreciate so much. 
 
This spectacular example is noteworthy because it is not just a box (a very popular form for tramp art) but it is a coin bank. The petite piece is a very intricately carved, multi-layered box that has a footed diamond shape. The top slides off to reveal the coin slot, and coins can be removed from the bottom of the compartment via a concealed "key". A charming and uncommon piece.
