Despite it's small scale, this rich, highly textured abstraction by John Beardsley (b. 1934) is a powerful painting. The intense colors are ensconced in a field of gold against French ultramarine. Sioux City Iowa native John Beardsley (1934- 1986) lived and worked in New York and Washington DC in the 1950s and 1960s along side friends Willem DeKooning and Marisol. He later moved to Florida where he opened is own studio and gallery mentoring many young artists. His work is included in many private collections and a number of museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art in NY, the Oxford University Library Gallery in London, and the Stadelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
