The iconic Panton chair was the first molded plastic chair and the culmination of several developments by Verner Panton during his search for the ideal material to realize his design. In the 1950s Panton began his quest and even produced the model 275 "S chair" in wood which owes an obvious debt to Rietvelds Z chair. The Panton chair was first fabricated of Baydur foam which would then be painted. The design was further modified with reinforcing ribs on the underside when the material was changed to colored thermoplastic polystyrene.

This example in white dates to June of 1974 and is in excellent original condition.
