This vintage Eero Saarinen tulip stool is noteworthy not just for being early production, but for it's original vivid red fabric and it's provenance. It came from the personal collection of important interior architect Paul Campagna.
Early production tulip stools have a thinner profile to the seat cusion which we think looks more elegant than the later, thicker stools.
When we acquired this stool, it was in very good original condition except for the foam on the seat cushion which had hardened. The base is in particularly fine original condition with the rilsan coating having yellowed far less than you typically see. We had the seat meticulously restored with new foam, the original hopsack fabric was cleaned and the original cambric retained. There is one small spot that could not be removed, but we felt that despite this, the original fabric was worth saving and that the spot only speaks to the stool's age and character.
