The "Sputnik" lamp was a popular design in the 1950s. The original was designed in 1954 by Gino Sarfatti and made by Lightolier as part of his "Astral" series. Many other manufacturers created their version of the design and the pendant lamps are still popular and readily found today. This table-top version is much more uncommon and an interesting variation. Three splayed legs each with a ball foot support the body of the lamp from which five arms radiate. Each of the five lights have a red fiberglass shade and the 4-way switch allows for two, three, or all five lights to be turned on.
