We love folk art and particularly tramp art. Made mostly by anonymous artists and craftsmen from discarded materials, the joy and creativity they convey in a functional object has a delightful character, and the elaborate, decorative surfaces and patterns are the perfect counterpoint to the clean-lined modern design we appreciate so much.  
 
This wonderful example is an intricately carved, multi-layered box that has a pyramid-shaped lid that removes to give access to the storage area as well as a pull-out drawer at the bottom. The interior and bottom are painted in a seafoam/ turquoise colored enamel. The overall texture of the scalloped carving activates every surface. It's a charming piece with wonderful presence.
